Now that was a word!

Well, Tomoe has finally done it.  We are certain now that she has said her first verifiable word.

Before, she’s said things like “mamamamama” and “dadadadada,” both of which have been shortened to “mama” and “dada/dad,” but we can’t be sure if she was trying to say the words.  She repeats sounds quite often, and she repeats after us, as well.  But it’s always been simple syllables repeated over and over again, like “yayayayayaya” and “nenenenenene.”  But this time was a real word.

After repeated attempts of getting her to speak, she finally said something.  In fact, she said it 3 times, somewhat unclear, then a 4th time she said it very clearly.  What did she say?  “Hello.”

And there you have it, Tomoe’s first word!

In other news, she’s still got a cold.  But she’s a strong girl, and doesn’t complain.  She plays like usual, ignoring her cold.  This morning, her voice was quite hoarse, which is a first for her.  I’ve woken up with a similar, more adult and male sounding voice while I’ve had a cold.

Tomoe now has 4 teeth out, but I think more are on the way.  She’s been drooling and biting things like crazy.

And I think I’ve discovered a favourite food of hers.  She seems to get really excited about mashed potatoes.  She loves it!  Then I later held up two bowls that she had just eaten from, and asked her which one she liked the best.  She then pointed to the pink bowl, which had a kind of vegetable and squid food called happosai.  Maybe she also liked that one, or she preferred the colour pink over the clear bowl.

I need more pictures of her.  Soon!

You can’t handle the tooth!

A couple weeks ago, Tomoe’s lower front teeth finally came in.  However, getting a picture of them is very difficult! It took many tries to get a good picture, and we had to resort to drastic measures.  You’ll see.  Below are some of our efforts.

I tried using the baby toothbrush to open her mouth, but it was very difficult to do that while trying to take a picture.

It was also a bit dark, so I needed to use the flash on my phone. Her mouth isn’t even open! But you can see her eye colour quite clearly.

That’s right, we had to hold her still and pull down her lip. She cried.

These days, we can see that she’s thinking and her personality is developing. She seems fascinated with doors.  She’ll hold the door while she’s in her bed and open and close it over and over again.  She plays by herself a lot now.  Give her some toys and she’ll occupy herself for quite a while.

Last night, I got a big surprise.  When I came home from work, she was in her bed and looked at me.  She smiled as soon as she saw it was me, then reached her arms up to me.  She wanted me to hold her.  That’s a great feeling!

I have no idea what she’s doing here.

Sleeping with her strawberry butt in the air.

Is that a motorboat?

There’s been a constant noise this week that sounds like a motorboat.  What could it be?  Tomoe’s been blowing raspberries all week.  She’s been particularly active with her “p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p-p” and “b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b” today.  We were out much of the day, and we had plenty to do.

She woke up in a good mood.

Stuck between my knees.

Blurry hand!

Looking pretty smug, but she was actually saying “babababa” and I caught her at the “b.”

First thing we had to do was get another shot.  This time was the polio vaccine.  She doesn’t seem to cry at all when she gets a shot.

Next was to go shopping.  We needed baby food and some warmer clothes, since winter is coming.  Her old winter clothes don’t fit anymore.  She also needed shoes, partly to keep her feet warm, but also because she should be walking pretty soon.  She managed to stand unsupported for nearly a minute.  Also, we got her a kind of baby toothbrush.  She’s getting her second tooth now!

Having fun with a mirror.

She’s been a bit sleepy today, since it was a busy day.  But she seems to be in a really good mood.

Teeth are almost here!

Tomoe’s got some big developments lately.  In addition to her growing ability to stand without support, she’s finally reaching another milestone.  Her teeth are starting to come in!

On Saturday, as Tomoe was biting my finger, I noticed her gums felt a bit different.  I opened her mouth and looked at her gums, which isn’t a very easy thing to do.  I could see both of her lower front teeth through her gums.  They were starting to push through.  They should be coming out very soon!

And now, some pictures, which my mom is expecting me to post.

She’s very happy!

Standing with the support of only one hand.

She’s climbing! She really enjoys climbing.
