It’s a family cold

Well, we all have colds.  My symptoms started yesterday with a slight sore throat.  I just had a cold last month, and now I have another one.  My wife already had a cold, then Tomoe came down with one, and now me.

Tomoe’s cold is evolving.  It started out as just a runny nose, not unlike Niagara Falls.  Constant snot falls.  Tonight, as I was feeding her dinner, she made big snot bubbles with her nose.  Every time she breathed out, big bubbles came out of her nose.  But that’s not all.  Last night, she started coughing.  She isn’t coughing a lot, but it’s a very typical looking cold.  Despite this, she’s still got a tremendous amount of energy. Even with a cold, she doesn’t slow down.

Tonight, after being fed and given some very warm formula, she refused to sleep for more than an hour.  She spent that time talking to herself in bed, until she finally started crying.  Still hungry.  So, I fed her some more formula, that’s 350 mL in 1 1/2 hours, and she finally fell asleep.  Hopefully, she’ll still be asleep when we go to bed.

Tomorrow’s my day off, and it’ll be a day of rest for us.

  1. Maybe her body is naturally healing her by waking her up to eat. No fun for the parents but at least she is eating which is a good thing.
Hope you all feel better soon. It’s no fun when everyone is sick. My house comes to a stand still and nothing gets done.

    • She didn’t actually wake up. She just didn’t fall asleep. She was surprisingly hungry, which I guess is a good thing. A good appetite when sick is a good thing.

  2. Colds … snort saltwater up the nose into the sinus cavities 3 times daily ( while standing over the sink or toilet !!! ) and it will come right back out cleaning out everything along the way. It will reach the top of the throat as well. Do this one last time after you think you don’t have to do it again and the cold will not re-entrench itself. A small nasal spray bottle filled with saltwater can be used or just a teaspoon of the saltwater.

The above is an old mariner’s method.

NOTE : It is kinda messy if you aren’t equipped with Kleenex while having a sink or toilet handy … but … it works. The saltwater doesn’t have to be very strong.

    • That definitely won’t work on a baby. A 10 month old isn’t going to snort water 🙂 I’m doing fine now with little in the way of a runny nose. But it certainly does sound messy and probably feels unpleasant.
